Health of the whole.

Our being, consists of beautiful intricate systems on which we function. Two of these systems are the mind and the body.

These systems are huge, and we depend on them totally for even everyday things, from walking to sitting to running and so much more.

And like we depend on them, these systems internally depend on one another to function. If you think of them individually many of our actions would be half done. You would only think of scrolling through your Instagram, but won’t actually get to the next reel. Annoying, isn’t it? That is probably how the body must feel when we only focus on one of these systems.

So how are these systems interconnected? How are they interdependent?

One function is carried out by one system and the rest provides or support for it. For example, when you exercise, certain chemicals and hormones are released over all your brain and body because of physical action, this often leads to feeling energised and having a good mood throughout the day. Similarly, when you are stressed, a certain hormone is released which lead to loss of appetite.

These are just a few of the many functions that are carried out in the body for which these systems magically coincide for everything to work properly. These two systems in particular are called the mental system for the mind and the physical system for the body.

Not only as adults but also for children, the regulations of these systems should be thought of, for a healthy, content and happy life. There are many ways these systems can either be improved or built upon. Some of them are, a proper diet, a regular sleeping health for the body, and practices like therapy and meditation for the mind.

By now we have established that these systems go hand in hand and cannot be taken in consideration individually. Just like that, their health should be considered together, as a whole.

Health in the modern world means, a state of being free from illness or injury, but if you dig a little deeper, the word comes from the original world “Hale” meaning whole. Health consists of not only wellbeing of one system but all together and the interdependence of all the systems and their wellbeing, and if you start building on even one of these, the rest will eventually follow, only if taken into consideration, only if you understand the wellness of our whole being is actually what we are working towards.
