Taking a break from hustle Culture.

What exactly are we running towards exactly? What is making us want to be productive all the time? Take up heavy projects one after the other.
Why is “Oh I slept for only 3 hours last night” a flex? Something to be proud of. Why does everything have to have a utility? Imagine, you’re lying in your bed on a late Saturday morning. Imagine driving through the fields or the city lights, listening to your favorite old Bollywood music. Why do these things feel so distant? So nostalgic? We’re so caught up in the everyday tight routines we build for ourselves in order to have control that sometimes we forget that other things exist too. We’re running so hard towards a better tomorrow, a tomorrow with more money, a tomorrow where we will value ourselves more that we forget what all is happening around us when we running towards said tomorrow.

Value. This meaning of the word has changed shapes and sizes throughout generations. So, the first thing that comes to mind, reading the word value today is money. It’s a high paid job. It’s a net worth of a person. And while we’re so busy trying to calculate our net worth, we forget about the real human values. We overlook a lot of things when we’re trying to ‘hustle’. We overlook our feelings and emotions, we overlook the people that we love and spend time with them, and we somewhere also forget our emotional needs. We start to think of ourselves as something that has to produce work irrespective of the condition that we are in. This results in burnout.

And when you’re working over something so much, you also fall with that much speed and force. Burnout is workaholics’ worst nightmare. Burnouts feel like a sudden deep urge to go back home running and sleep in your mother’s arms. Burnouts feel like your soul is tired and no matter how much you rest you still keep on feeling exhausted. Burnout feels like wasted afternoons for a week straight. Moreover, we have been working so much that forget how to care of ourselves, and how to recover from a burnout.

It’s actually quite simple, taking rest. You just have to let yourself be. Let yourself feel the things that you’ve been avoiding for a while. Sleep through a Monday morning and go to the office late, go to the playground and look at kids playing, call your mom, and talk to her about nothing that really matters for hours. Do things that make you feel like you’re a walking, living, breathing human being and not like a wired fixed machine. Something that reminds you that you can not only cater for the project that you’re leading in the office but you can also take care of yourself when you need to just unwind a bit.
